It was our wedding anniversary on the 7th Nov so my wife and I decided to visit the newly opened The Dubai Mall. It is the largest mall in the world. The trip soon become nightmare as we got stuck in the traffic for nearly an hour and half to cover a distance which should not take more the 15 min. As you can see here we weren't the only ones, not to mention the construction going around that place did not make things any easier, but thanks to my wife's skilful driving we covered the distance faster than expected.

The mall is pretty much just like any other mall with tons of places to shop. But the Dubai Aquarium, which is inside the mall is amazing. As you will see from the pics it was packed and there was a huge queue to enter the tunnel which gives 270 degrees of viewing angle of the aquarium. The aquarium is already in the Guinness book for the worlds largest acrylic panel. It also has a Discover Centre which has lots of information about the marine life. Although I felt that some of the tanks were a bit small. There is an Olympic size ice rink which has encouraged my wife to take up skating more seriously. It also feature a very large indoor Gold Souk, unfortunately most of the shops were not open yet.

Over all it was a great trip, except for the traffic & the parking incident, where we forgot where we had parked our car, everything was good. Will I visit it again? probably not, as except for the aquarium and the discovery centre there is not much that interest me. The Dubai Mall does not even come close to Ibn Battuta and Mercato, which in my opinion, are the two best malls in Dubai and a must visit for any visitor. And it will be interesting to see how Ski Dubai copes up with Dubai Aquarium as a new competitor.

The pics are at the usual place.
